Security Concerns, Microsoft Makes Changes to Recall-Features
Last June, Microsoft announced a ‘recall’ feature for CoPilot Plus PC model laptops with artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. The company said at the time that Windows’ built-in recall facility can automatically take screenshots of the laptop’s screen every few seconds and store them in a specific location. But security experts expressed concern before Microsoft launched this facility. According to them, cybercriminals as well as anyone can review the data collected by the recall and find out all the history of other people’s laptops. And so in the face of criticism, this time Microsoft will give the opportunity to control recall-facilities. As a result of this new decision, users will be able to enable or disable the recall feature.
Microsoft said that the recall facility will be launched next November. The recall feature can identify sensitive information and filter it out. As a result, users can stop taking screenshots of screens that contain password and credit card information. They can even delete the collected information if they want. All data collected by Recall is stored in encrypted form and is therefore secure.
According to Microsoft, although screenshots of all images on the laptop screen are collected regularly, Recall stores them on the user’s device. As a result, necessary information can be easily found at any time. Not only that, users’ privacy is not lost as Microsoft or any other organization cannot use the data.
